Lucas Di Grassi is testing today (Monday, 2 May) and tomorrow in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain) for Pirelli. Despite having recorded the fastest time of all the weekend's preliminary rankings, Lucas di Grassi from Bombril team, lost a few tenths in the decisive training (Top Qualifying) and will start from second position in the opening race of the event, which will start soon at 21.45 on Saturday.



 

"I got the fastest lap of the weekend in the first qualifying session, with 55s6, two tenths of a second lower than the second total fastest time. But for the Top Qualifying, I made a small mistake at the entrance of Turn 1 and I let slip pole position," said di Grassi who will start alongside Antonio Pizzonia, the first grid. "Even so, I am very confident of a great race very soon. The kart is perfect and I will leave it without doing anything mad. Only the pole position was missing in order to complete the impressive performance of Lucas di Grassi at the 2010 International Challenge of Stars, held this weekend (18 and 19/dez) in Sapeins Karting Arena, Florianópolis (SC).
 

Entitled to the best lap of the race - and the whole weekend so far - to get 55s393, Di Grassi behind the wheel of the kart No. 9 Bombril team, won the opening race of the tournament, played on Saturday night. The final heat takes place on Sunday morning (19). 



 

After the first miss of the grid by a difference of only 0s037 Antonio Pizzonia, Di Grassi maintained the second position at the start and came to take the lead up to the lap 10. Surpassed by Massa in the 14th passage, the Bombril team pilot dropped to third, regaining second place three laps later.



 

The lead was finally reconquered by di Grassi on lap 20, when he beat again Pizzonia, who dropped to fourth. Without slowing down, di Grassi opened a gap of 2s for Massa during the final eight laps and won the first heat of the Challenge this year.

 



"It was a very good race, fought. I had to make a recovery test after receiving a touch of Felipe (Massa) and dropped to third, but worth every effort. It was my second victory here in batteries in the Challenge. Despite being a celebration, winning here has special meaning for me. Blockbuster GP Solidarity, which led to 3500 people Karting registration in the city of São Paulo, in the last 16 days, was also reflected in the amount of donations collected. The test devised by drivers Lucas di Grassi, Diogo Zucarelli and Patrick Richardson, who scored the opening of the track in the Ribeira Valley, collected four tons of food and hygiene materials which were distributed to local entities.

 



The donations were delivered to APAE (Parents and Friends of Exceptional Children), the CRIFF (Children's House Happy Future, home to abandoned children, orphans or victims of abuse), the Home of Love and Velhinhos Hope to Menor (AME ) of the city which lies about 200 km from state capital.



 

Lucas di Grassi, the end result was very positive and higher than expected. "It was a really cool event, being the first year. We expected to have sold all the tickets, we managed to raise a good amount of donations. We riders, we had fun during the weekend and everyone was very excited. Now, let's expand the race next year, "said the pilot.

 



The winner of the first edition of GP Solidarity was Betinho Gresse, Stock Light Champion in 2007 and current Stock Car driver, with Ricardo Mauricio Ruben Carrapatoso and closing the first three.

 

Sun, heat, 19 of the biggest names in Brazilian auto racing and a great movement in favor of the charities of the Ribeira Valley (SP) marked the first edition of the GP of Solidarity, an event that inaugurated the kart Karting registry, 200 km from state capital, and opened the season at the national motoring on Sunday (16).

 



There were about 3500 people (3000 and 500 in the bleachers in the boxes) that have paid admission to see the race shows stunt cars and motorcycles and the main event, the kart racing Diogo Zucarelli idealized by pilots, and Patrick Rocha Lucas di Grassi. Proceeds from the sale of tickets will be handed over to four entities of the City of Record: the APAE (Parents and Friends of Exceptional Children), the CRIFF (Children's House Happy Future, home to abandoned children, orphans or victims of abuse) , Home of Velhinhos and Love Hope to Menor (AME).



 

"It's just the beginning of the year. And I think the first time in my career, I ran without thinking about the result. The coolest of all this was taking part in the organization of work in order to raise money for agencies that do a fantastic job. Lucas di Grassi and other major motor sport pilots will participate in the Brazilian GP Solidarity, proof that marks the opening of the national motorsport calendar, this Sunday (16/01). The event, which will have a beneficent nature, will also mark the inauguration of the circuit Registry - a city located about 200 km from state capital. The meeting will have all proceeds donated to the ticket APAE (Parents and Friends of Exceptional Children) Registry. Opening the Calendar Motorsports is sponsored by the Brazilian network of language schools and Karting CNA registry.



 

Di Grassi, one of the creators of proof and "godfather" of the event, told how the competition was created. "We had this idea at the end of last year. We wanted to make a go-kart race in early 2011 to mark the opening season of racing in Brazil, "he said.



 

The race will count with the presence of drivers in Formula 1, Stock Car and Formula Truck. Besides Lucas, Max Wilson, current Stock Car champion, Thiago Camilo, Ricardo Mauricio Gomes, Xandinho Negrao, Diego Nunes and Daniel Serra are some of the names already confirmed for the event.



 

All programming will happen on the same day with the realization of a free training, classification and two batteries of 20 minutes each on Sunday (16/01). There will be among the pilots of the draw karts (chassis Moro, MG tires and 13hp Honda engines) to be 0 km, identical and have the same weight. The champion will be the one with more points, based on the results of each race, like the All-Star Challenge - an event whose champion of 2010 was, precisely, Lucas di Grassi. In addition to the evidence, acrobatics shows are planned and automobile stunts.

 



In 2011, the Solidarity GP Karting happen in the new registry, which is located at km 448 of the Highway Régis Bittencourt (BR-116), north runway. The track has 1,270 meters long, 8.5 meters wide and eight variants that allow you to create different layouts. The infrastructure of the site also includes covered grandstands, box seating, lighting towers, food and parking.



 

According to di Grassi, the goal is to make the race, which would always give the start to the season's national motoring, become itinerant. "We want to prove every year, always in different kart tracks in Brazil," he said.

Tickets will be sold from $ 10 for grandstand and $ 400 for cabin, and there will be retail outlets in the cities of the region of registration (below). All proceeds from the sale of tickets will be donated to the APAE registry.

It seemed that the coveted title of International Challenge of the Stars would be postponed again. After an important victory in the race that opened the sixth edition of the 2010 International Challenge of the Stars, on Saturday night (18), the Arena Sapiens Kartodrome, Florianópolis (SC), the pilot Lucas di Grassi found himself obliged to leave the decisive step on Sunday morning (19).



 

The pilot of the Virgin Racing F1 team - who competed in the Challenge team Dafra / Bombril / TNT / Itaipava / Linea sweetener, with partnership of Peter Pan, Kid Tire, Powerball, Artmix, Schioppa, and Sorocred Eurobike - abandoned the race shortly on the fourth lap. During counting, Lucas got 25 for winning the first race and tied in the lead to Barrichello (who recorded an 8 and a 2nd place, respectively) Felipe Massa (2 and 11) and Bia Figueiredo (11th and 1st).
